Spiros reached a point in his career a couple of
years ago where transition to digital would be the inevitable, and as such,
had to adapt his way of work accordingly. Investment in a pro-spec dSLR
system covered him for his editorial work, but there was also a need to
put together a kit which could allow the commercial work – much of
which would end up being enlarged to billboard size. There was also the
point that many of these commissions required a final image to be a compilation
of several different elements, and Spiros had to find a way to replace the
5x4in
camera which had previously been his stalwart in this area.
In the end the need to move to a medium format camera
fitted with a digital back became clear. “To a certain extent this solution was led by client
demand,” says Spiros. “Because so many of my commissions required
piecing together it was vital that art directors and client handlers at
the agencies I was working with could be kept in the loop as the various shots
were undertaken.”
